Michelle Pennington Clennan, MS, LMFT
I don’t see your mistakes, I see your story.
I’m a licensed psychotherapist in Kansas, who graduated with honors from Friends University with a Master’s in Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. This means I work with individuals, couples, and families. Marriage and family therapists specialize in assessing individuals through the lens of their family of origin, belief systems, childhood, and other significant life experiences. We look at the whole picture of our clients versus a small snippet of our clients’ lives. My goal is to seek out the root causes of a client’s actions, subconscious pulls, and behavioral patterns. As a successful survivor of childhood and adult trauma, I have the life experience to gently guide clients through the process. My goal with each client is to make progress at a reasonable and safe pace that balances comfort and discomfort to invoke a positive change at an optimal level.
I accept you without judgment - my words will match my thoughts.
Let me assure you, there is nothing you can say that I will judge aloud or in my thoughts. My goal in creating my practice is to provide a space that is comforting not just through my office setting, but through my thoughts and words. I am committed to giving each client the benefit of the doubt and the attention/focus they need.
My office space is designed for your comfort.
My office space was specially designed with your comfort being the ultimate goal, which includes an electric fireplace/candles, pillows, blankets, a coffee/drink bar, and cozy, comfortable leather furniture. Think of your session as not only therapy but a form of self-care and restoration.
No gatekeeping or playing the question-and-answer game that leaves you in the dark.
Everyone deserves to have strong, optimal mental health, emotional self-control, and self-awareness. It is my passion to empower others through education, transparency of my process, and answering clients’ direct questions about themselves when they reach an impasse. If you could figure it out, you wouldn’t need me!
Why do my standard sessions run 75-90 minutes versus 50 minutes?
Do you feel you’re just getting started during your therapy session, only to have it end? I want to fully engage with your emotional state, and your experiences - I use this additional time to empathize on a deep level while factoring in your family of origin, past experiences, and belief systems. I find that client(s) start to engage and unwind their feelings around 45-55 minutes into a session - this extended time frame allows us to dig deeper versus waiting into the following week when momentum may be lost. If your time is limited and does not allow for extended sessions, I am happy to accommodate your situation.
My available sessions during the week are limited, so each client has my full attention.
When spots are available, I only take one or two new clients at a time. Because my assessment period is intensive and the initial sessions are longer (up to three hours each) - I limit the number of new clients I take at a time. This ensures that I can put my full focus on you. I am committed to each of my clients. Every client is the most important client.
My business and life experience give me insight into complex issues.
Not only am I a successful survivor of childhood and adult trauma, but I am also a former marketing executive, then stay-at-home parent who assisted her spouse in building a multi-million dollar investment office that is now in its twentieth year of operation, including launching our children into successful adulthood. I have mentored and worked with executives and business owners, so I have had a front-row seat in the challenges of building a business from the ground up. This unique perspective allows me to empathize with an array of couples and individuals because I have seen the potential downfalls and personal stress associated with this level of responsibility. Are you struggling to motivate your sales force or your employees? Let me help you understand how to inspire workers to perform at their optimal level. Are you feeling overwhelmed? Are you feeling paranoid toward employees or are you having new marital problems since starting your business? You are not alone. Let me be a mentor or therapist to help you through this challenging time.
Let’s crack the code of you.
Let’s work together to unravel the mystery of you. Self-discovery is the path to optimal self-management. Learn easy, doable ways to manage and take control of the underlying currents that pull you in directions you don’t want to go.
